House rules
1. Safety first
Make sure to warm up properly
: Ensure you warm up well before you start climbing to prevent injuries. It’s best to remove jewellery, bracelets, watches, etc. before you start climbing.
Keep fall zones clear
: Don’t stand under other climbers and stay out of the fall zones.
No items lying around
: Don’t leave items such as bags or bottles on the crash mat. Put the brushes back in their holders after use.
Maximum one person per route
: Only climb on routes where no one else is climbing. Before you start climbing, check that your climbing route doesn’t cross another climber’s route.
2. Responsible behaviour
Respect others
: Wait your turn and give others space to climb. Keep sufficient distance from the climbing wall.
Listen to our staff
: Always follow the instructions of the team.
Know your limits and don’t overestimate yourself.
3. Climbing technique and safety
Use of chalk
: Use chalk powder sparingly: think of your own health and that of other climbers. Always place your chalk bags in the chalk stations, don’t leave them lying on the mat.
Cleaning
: Brush holds after use to keep them clean for others.
Climbing is only allowed on the climbing walls!
Safe falling
: Always try to land on both feet and roll through if possible. Practice falling safely from a low height.
Before you start a climb
, check that the entire route is clear and that you’re not disturbing anyone who is already climbing.
4
. Miscellaneous
Climbing shoes are a must
: You can only climb with proper climbing shoes. Climbing barefoot is not allowed. Wearing socks in rental shoes is mandatory.
No shirtless climbing please
: Keep your t-shirt on while climbing.
Food and drinks
: Eating or drinking in the climbing zone is not allowed. A refillable water bottle is of course permitted.
Please don’t go to the toilets with your climbing shoes on
.
Use chalk sparingly and don’t leave chalk bags lying on the mat.
Place your chalk in the designated containers (chalk stations) that you’ll find throughout the hall. Only use your chalk here. This keeps the crash mats clean for your fellow climbers.
5
. Respect for the hall and equipment
Holds and walls
: Climbing or holding onto elements outside the routes is not allowed. Never touch the lights, steel beams, ceiling, etc.
Leave it tidy
: Store your backpacks, clothing and other belongings neatly in the cubbies and don’t leave any rubbish behind.
Keep the crash mats and carpets clean:
no food on the mats. Don’t walk on the carpets in the climbing hall with your outdoor shoes. Put on your climbing shoes at the entrance of the hall.
6
. Children and young people
Watch the children
: Children under 12 years old can only climb under supervision of an adult. Maximum two children per parent. As a parent, make sure you keep your children in sight at all times so they don’t endanger themselves or others. Explain to them that they shouldn’t run around and shout. This keeps it safe and pleasant for everyone. Children are very welcome. At the same time, the climbing hall is not an indoor playground ā for that you should visit our upstairs neighbours at Pretland. š
If you want to come climbing with
more than two children
, this is only possible under guidance of a Walden instructor. This must be reserved in advance via info@walden.gent.
